The Comorian franc is the official currency of the Union of the Comoros – an island nation located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa. The currency was introduced in 1979, replacing the CFA franc, and has since formed the basis of the country’s financial system. One KMF is divided into 100 centimes; however, due to the low value of the unit, lower-denomination coins are rarely used in daily transactions. The Comorian franc is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate set by France, which ensures currency stability and protects the Comorian economy from sudden market fluctuations.
