The Estonian kroon was the official currency of Estonia until the adoption of the euro in 2011, it was first introduced in 1928 replacing the Estonian mark, then after the occupation of Estonia by the Soviet Union in 1940, the krone was replaced by the Soviet ruble. The Estonian kroon was restored in June 1992 after Estonia regained independence in 1991. The Estonian kroon was issued in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 500 kroner - the banknotes depicted important figures and events from Estonian history.
