The 1-dollar banknote is one of the most recognizable symbols of the United States and the most widely used banknote in the world. The obverse features a portrait of George Washington, the first US president, with the inscription "Federal Reserve Note" above. The reverse shows the Great Seal of the United States – on one side, an eagle holding an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing peace and strength; on the other, a pyramid with the Eye of Providence, symbolizing durability and divine blessing for the country. The design of the 1-dollar banknote has remained virtually unchanged since 1963.
The 2-dollar banknote is much rarer – the obverse features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third US president and author of the Declaration of Independence. The reverse depicts the famous painting by John Trumbull, "The Signing of the Declaration of Independence," showing the birth of American nationhood. Although the 2-dollar note remains legal tender, it is rarely seen in daily circulation – most Americans keep it as a souvenir or a charm believed to bring luck.
