The official currency of Zambia is divided into 100 ngwee and was introduced in 1968, replacing the Zambian pound. Initially, the currency code was ZMK, but in 2013 a redenomination took place, in which 1,000 old kwacha were exchanged for 1 new kwacha. The banknotes currently in circulation include denominations of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 kwacha, while coins are available in 5, 10, and 50 ngwee, as well as 1 kwacha. The Zambian currency is a floating currency, meaning its value against other currencies such as the US dollar or the euro can fluctuate depending on the economic situation.
